Edward J. Mazur Reappointed to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board
Norwalk, CT, November 1, 2001—Edward J. Mazur, Vice President for Administration and Finance of Virginia State University and a former state and federal controller, was reappointed a member of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) by the Financial Accounting Foundation (FAF). The announcement was made by Manuel H. Johnson, Chairman of the FAF. Mr. Mazur, who has been a board member since 1997, will begin his second five-year term on July 1, 2002."Ed Mazur has made important contributions to the GASB and the FAF is pleased to announce his reappointment," commented Mr. Johnson. "His broad experience in governmental accounting is an asset to the board."
Prior to joining Virginia State University in 1993, Mr. Mazur served two years as the first Federal government Controller, a position appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate under the Chief Financial Officers Act of 1990. Previous to that post, he was the State Comptroller of the Commonwealth of Virginia for 11 years. He is a past President of the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers.
Mr. Mazur has received recognition for his service in governmental accounting by various organizations, including The Association of Government Accountants’ National President’s Leadership Award and the American Institute of CPAs Outstanding CPA in Government Award.
Mr. Mazur, a certified public accountant, holds a bachelors degree from the University of Connecticut and earned an M.B.A. degree from the Wharton Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania.
